The meeting served as a final preparation for a critical special City Council meeting scheduled for March 3rd, where the commission will present its goals and advocate for its continued existence.

During this year’s NAACP Black History Month meeting, Vallejo will honor Elissa Shanks Stewart as one of the city’s 2026 Living Legends, recognizing her lifelong commitment to service, cultural understanding, and community leadership.

The event—highlighted by the theme “Remember. Create. Act.”—featured a 9 a.m. parade followed by a lively festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., showcasing live performances by Tony Lindsay, the Soul Soldiers, Oakland Rising, and Yaboi Nilo, among others.
